Commissions

Here’s a general size & price guideline for commissioned artwork. The reason I say “general” is because cost could vary depending on the request. Most people ask for pet portraits or family portraits… but I could potentially lower the price for a simpler request. OR perhaps estimate a little higher if I can tell the piece will be more complex, detailed, or time-consuming… OR if you need it in a hurry!

Sometimes I have a wait list (especially around the holidays!) so placing your order in advance is advised! If you have a deadline in mind, please let me know up front & I’ll tell you if that goal is doable or not! If we agree to a deadline, I WILL have it ready on time. I know artists sometimes have a reputation for being flakey & late for things… But I’m not that kind of artist. I’m the anxious, overly organized, hyper vigilant type. You don’t need to check in every day or every week to see how it’s going. The more time I spend emailing, the less time I have to work!

Now on to reference photos… If you’d like me to paint an image based on a photograph, a GOOD, CLEAR, QUALITY reference photo is OH SO VERY IMPORTANT! If it’s blurry, shadowy, grainy or generally low quality… it makes my job really tough. I’m a paint-what-I-see kinda gal. So if I can’t see it… obviously, I’m gonna struggle to paint it! Sometimes it’s helpful to send MULTIPLE references if possible. That way I can advise which one I think is most paintable in my opinion. (If you’re flexible on your vision, that is.) OR sometimes I can combine elements of each. If I don’t think I’d be right for the job, I’ll be honest with you & simply decline (or suggest another artist). It’s only happened a few times, but I’d rather just say NO if it means avoiding a piece that doesn’t fit my style or skill set. I love my job & I’d prefer to keep it that way! You can send your photo references via Email, Facebook Messenger, Or Instagram. (Or via text if I know you in real life.)

I paint most of my commissions using acrylics. They dry quickly & I find them easiest to work with. But if you have a specific medium in mind, just ask! I also dabble in oils, watercolors, gouache, ink, & pencils.

Once I quote you a price, you are under no obligation to move forward with the commission. I know this economy sucks & artwork is a luxury. I just recently gained enough confidence to raise my prices a bit. (But keep in mind, they’re still lower than many others out there! Feel free to shop around.) After years of practice, trial, & error, I know my worth & the value of my time. I may love my job. But it’s still a job & we all deserve to be compensated for our work.

If I don’t know you well, I may ask for a deposit to officially hold your spot on my To-Do List, but the full balance isn’t due until the artwork is complete. If the piece needs to be shipped, you’re also responsible for the cost of postage. I will not mail your art until I’ve been paid in full. I accept CASH, card, Venmo, or PayPal. (Cash & Venmo are my favorites, btw… but whatever works for you!)

I can also go bigger or add more subjects! If you have a special request, let me know!
